Data checked against: Patch 0.1.3
Last updated: 2026-06-28
Source level: Community-reported
In-game verified by this site: No
May change during Early Access: Yes
Requirements
For co-op play, you need:
- Internet connection — Co-op requires online connectivity (Offline Mode is single-player only)
- A host player — One player hosts the world; others join as guests
- The game — Both players need a copy of Witchspire
How Co-op Progression Works
Host vs Guest:
- Host — Owns the world. All world-level progression (Hearth, builds, unlocks) is saved to the host's save file.
- Guest — Keeps character level and inventory when leaving. World progress does not transfer to the guest's own save.
Step-by-Step
- Step 1: Host creates or loads a world
The host player selects an existing world or creates a new one. World progression is tied to the host's save.
- Step 2: Guest joins the host's world
The guest player connects to the host's world via the multiplayer menu.
- Step 3: Play together
Both players can explore, fight, build, and craft. World progress (Hearth, builds, unlocks) is saved to the host's world.
- Step 4: Guest returns to their own world
When the guest returns to their solo world, they keep their character level and inventory but not the host's world progress.
Common Mistakes
- ⚠️ Expecting world progress to carry over to your own save.
Fix: World progress (Hearth level, builds, unlocks) belongs to the host's save. Your character level and inventory carry over, but the world does not.
- ⚠️ Trying to play co-op in Offline Mode.
Fix: Co-op requires an internet connection. Offline Mode is single-player only. This is confirmed in Patch 0.1.3 notes.
- ⚠️ Not understanding who "owns" the world.
Fix: The host owns the world. If the host is offline, the guest cannot access that world. Progress is saved on the host's machine.
- ⚠️ Assuming both players unlock the same things.
Fix: Unlocks tied to the world (Hearth, builds) stay with the host's world. Character-level unlocks may carry over to the guest's own save (needs verification).
